Viktoriya and Oksana's Story

How did you learn about Whole Food Plant Based eating?

We learned about whole food plant based diet 8 years ago. I (Oksana) have worked as an immunologist studying various cancers and designing immunotherapies for the treatment of pancreatic and ovarian cancers as well as other solid based tumors. In my research, I learned that certain foods have organic compounds that increase the expression of these tumor suppressor genes and various genes needed to help us fight disease and even reverse. My co-worker was also struggling with arthritis and I turned my attention to autoimmune diseases to see what happens to our immune cells when we alter our environment and the foods we are eating.

I went back to school to study nutrition and attended various nutritional workshops and conferences to learn how our bodies are able to recover from chronic illness once our cells are given what they need to do their job best way possible. We build our cells from the foods we eat. That means that we can literally transform from a sick body to a healthy body one cell at a time and one bite at a time. This is very exciting and it’s even more exciting seeing other people recover from chronic diseases all by changing their diet.

Dr. Michael Klaper, Dr. Michael Greger. Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Alan Goldhamer, Dr. Garth Davis.

 

Are there any tips you can pass on to a new Whole Food Plant Based follower?

A great place to start is to first recognize that you deserve to eat only the best foods and you deserve an amazing health. So, start by eliminating the foods that are causing health issues such as processed foods and animal products.

The second step is to educate yourself and learn from plant-based medical doctors who have been thriving eating plant based for many decades. They have the scientific knowledge and understanding how to eat this way for long term health and results.

 

And lastly, surround yourself with a supportive community where people share common values and interests. It may become easy to go back to our old destructive eating habits, so having support and positivity is essential so you can achieve the results that you want faster and forever.

 

What was the biggest challenge you faced transitioning to a Whole Food Plant Based diet?

When we first started this diet, it was uncomfortable eating differently from our peers and family members, but, with time, it became part of who we were. Once you do it for your health and you learn the right information from medical doctors such as Dr. Garth Davis on how to nourish yourself correctly, it become an easy and normal part of your life.

What health benefits did you have from eating Plant Based?

Years ago when I moved to USA, I discovered this lesson myself. I went from eating straight from my grandmother’s farm to an unhealthy Standard American Diet.  A few years later my vision went down, experienced constant migraines, skin issues, and hair loss.  By the time I was in college, my health declined even further and I started experiencing flu-like symptoms, recurrent tonsillitis and ear infections, as well as chronic migraines and hair loss. 

 

Soon enough we became fed up with traditional medicine, which only seems to mask the symptoms and even cover up the real issue. We spend the next 7 years working on our research, testing different methods and finding the best and FASTEST approach to healing and reversing chronic illnesses without the use of supplements or medications.

 

So the biggest benefits I have experiences since going plant- based are better digestion, clearer skin, higher energy, thicker hair and becoming bullet proof to colds and migraines.
